Academic

Matthew maintains an active range of academic interests in law, philosophy and economics:

Cambridge Law Academic

Matthew earned his first academic degrees (BA and MA) from Christ’s College, Cambridge. Notably, he graduated with a Triple First Class Honours in Philosophy. During his studies, he specialized in mathematical and philosophical logic, along with the works of Kant and Hegel. His thesis, titled Anti-Realism and Theories of Meaning, also received a First Class grade.

London Law Academic

After that, Matthew studied law at the College of Law in London. He ranked 14th out of more than 600 students in his CPE exams and received the Clifford Chance Prize for his achievement.

Chicago Law Academic

Matthew completed his academic LLM in international law and economics at the University of Chicago Law School, where he graduated at the top of his class. He then pursued a doctoral degree at the same university, supervised by Richard Posner, a prominent American jurist and Federal Appellate Judge on the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, along with his son Eric Posner, a well-known University of Chicago academic and advocate of realism in contemporary international relations.

Comparative Law Academic

Matthew has an extensive record of academic publications, with a primary focus on international law, international relations, and post-conflict reconstruction. From 2009 to 2010, he served as a visiting Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL). During this period, he initiated a comparative research project that examines the legal frameworks governing post-conflict constitutional and federal settlements in the Middle East, Africa, and the Balkans. This research is planned to serve as the foundation for an upcoming book.
